Comments: Steve, I am very impressed with the all the photo's of the nose art. Especially with ACFT 70-1271. I am the DCC on that ACFT now and as a matter of fact, it is in in Depot right now due out on Sept 22. I have been here at Ramstein for almost a year and pretty much immediately, I became DCC for that ACFT. Most of the photo's on here are of ACFT currently stationed here at Ramstein. I just wanted to drop a line and say hello to the former DCC of my ACFT. Any history you have of the ACFT would be greatly appreciated. There is only so much you can get from historical documents. If you have more pictures, I would love to see them. Thanks Steve...SSgt Ernie LaPaglia

I know that some of the "leadership" didn't like them - I say bull$@#%. The only reason that they didn't like them is because they didn't order it.

I don't know what you are doing now but I have to tell you as we head off to war again.............get you paint and brushes ready men!!!!

Keep up the good work.

Comments: very nice site for C-130 AC ,I worked C130's in Little Rock and Cripple76 was a frequent customer for maintainers when I was there in the early 80's then I went to Turkey and worked on Dyess,Pope an Little Rock Transient 130's at Incirlick
with the 628MASS for some reason the No Hope Pope 130's an Dyess Hogs were always keeping us MAintainers busy then I went to MCChord and worked the 36th until their last Red Flag then They were reassigned a lot of them have my signature under the UHF R/T when I swapped out the havquick's for reg R/T's then I retired in 2000 off the C141 Starlifter (didn't like the C141 the T-Tail was always leaking and crawling up the aft ladder was a greasy job the C130 was a great aircraft for Com/Nav to work on lots of room :-)

Comments: Never worked Hercs, flew in them often enough though.

While working F-111Fs at Lakenheath ('84-ish) I was flagged down by a transient Herc aircrew from the states obviously enjoying their time in Europe. They asked for chalk to do a little "Nose Art" on their bird.

We couldn't find any so we called Job Control to get us some. Of course being the anal "control freaks" they are of course wanted to know what we needed it for. Telling them it was for the C-130 crew wasn't good enough. They wanted to know why the crew wanted it. The FE, an obvious genius, suggested it was to check the timing on the engines. The anal control freaks also being idiots bought it and red-balled out a box of chalk.

The crew ornately wrote, "The Raging Queen" over the crew door. The job-control puke who had stayed, I guess to watch them time a turbine engine (what an idiot) was not happy when he discovered the true need for his precious chalk. He probably missed out on a poker game or something considering his poor demeanor.

Cheers,
Poppy

Estimate it will take me about 6 months to complete and there are a number of different model companies assisting me. Turns out that this type of model plane has not been reproduced successfully. So any additional info you come across would be great.

Comments: I came across this as I was researching photos from Rhein-Main AB. It was great to find this site with so many familiar C-130 tail numbers and nose art pictures. It brings back many fond memories from our stint at Al Ain, UAE during the Gulf War. I was in Plans, Scheduling, and Documentation section (Dreams and Schemes). Won't ever forget the MRE's we first got that were dated 1984. Was so glad to get our nightly catered hot meal. Who can ever forget the coed latrine and running out of water all the time from those long showers.

Comments: " Desert Warrior ", 64-0537 sure rang a bell!!! It was painted by SSgt Perry Bratcher. He was a member of 5 MAPS, we were stationed at Dahahran for the duration of Shield/Storm. A fighter puke with the 1 TFW wanted the design for his F-15. Perry refused his request and hurried to paint it on the BAT. He didn't want the fighter puke to steal his design. Perry first painted it on a sheet and hung it up in the ATOC. He worked for at least 15 hours. The fighter puke actually went up the chain to get Perry to change his mind. Perry stood fast and waited for the chance to get started on the BAT. The results speak for itself. Perry then started making t-shirts for us with the same design. Actually, "Desert Warrior" was one of his minor works.

So I was a Rhein Main Crew Dog with the 435th OMS, (the best there ever was), from 85-87 and would like to here from anyone that was there. I was hospitalized in Wiesbaden until stable enough to air-evac across the pond, forever. Thanks for the picture of 70-1264; I truely had a love affair with her.

Comments: Cool site! I was an Aircraft Maintenance Officer with the 36th TAS/ 316TAW at Langley AFB 1968-1970. We had mostly 63 series (and a couple of 62's) c-130E's. Wish we had nose art. I made up stencils for our squadron patch and painted the insignia on small aluminum panels we placed in the lower pilot's side window. They quickly became souvenirs, but I still have one. Keep up the good work!
